EXPERIMENTAL SPIRIT AND AVANT-GARDE THAT DEFINE THE KOREAN ART SCENE, AND THE ‘AG’ GROUP
This book is a collection of works from an exhibition of the same name held in May 2023, reexamining the activities of the Korean Avant-Garde Association (AG), formed in 1969, and the art critic Lee Yil (1932–1997), who served as its theoretical focal point. The AG was a group of pioneering Korean artists and critics, including the critic Lee Il, who interacted and collaborated in the late 1960s. Operating under the name AG, an abbreviation for ‘Avant-Garde,’ the group held three major exhibitions from its founding in 1969 until its official dissolution in 1975, and planned the 1974 Seoul Biennale.
